Assessment of Fresh/Dried Makuea Poo-Ung Consumption and Its Benefit on Recommended Daily Allowance

Abstract

Makuea poo-ung is a seasonal crop which grows abundantly during the rainy periods. The purpose of the chapter was to assess the relation between 50µg/g/ml of nutrients present in fresh/dried makuea poo-ung compared to RDA of children, teenagers, and adults. Laboratory analysis was undertaken to assess nutrients in fresh/dried makuea poo-ung, by the use of proximate analysis, mineral analysis, atomic absorption spectrometer, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Techniques used to analyse data were SPSS, Independent T. Test, and test for hypothesis. Twenty nutrients were present in fresh/dried makuea poo-ung. Comparing with RDA, it affirmed that a consumption of at least 50 µg/g of makuea poo-ung each day could provide humankind with 12-50% of the dietary allowance needed then serve as a natural food supplement. Assessment of nutrient in makuea poo-ung provided unique results. Hence, commended that consumers patronize makuea poo-ung as natural food supplement.
