Abstract
Leadership in outdoor recreation activities was mainly described with the outdoor leadership approach. However, outdoor leadership deals with group management. Therefore, it is essential to reveal the perceived challenges in outdoor recreation activities with the self-leadership approach since self-leadership strategies influence performance positively. These strategies, behavior-focused, natural reward, and constructive thought pattern strategies, motivate individuals for productive behaviors. Even though these strategies improve individuals, they still confront some challenges in leading themselves. In this context, this study aims to reveal the perceived challenges of self-leadership in camping and rock-climbing activities to help the success of participants. Since the research was planned as qualitative research to understand participants rather than explain them, the RSLQ factors were adapted as interview questions to reveal perceived challenges. Results showed that participants cope with 26 perceived challenges before, during, and after camping and rock-climbing activities.
