Abstract

Developing meaningful and sustainable service-learning projects remains challenging, given how community partnerships are so often short-term and short-lived. Further, the needs and values of community partners in service-learning partnerships are frequently neglected. This chapter proposes a service-learning approach through which students can leverage their pre-existing professional relationships. The author argues that, for select students, these partnerships may be more beneficial than developing an entirely new one. He discusses his own experiences with this approach and outlines limitations and considerations.
