Abstract
A progressive neurodegenerative ailment called Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by a loss in cognitive function and neuronal damage. Serious negative effects will result from the continued administration of synthetic medications for the treatment of neurodegenerative illnesses. Scientists have recently concentrated their research efforts on phytochemicals as a potential treatment for neurological illnesses. Conventional herbs and phytoconstituents may postpone the disease's development, halt its course, and also enable recovery by addressing numerous pathological reasons with their biological effects. A nootropic herb is any plant or plant part that has been used medicinally for its ability to protect the nervous system through the action of active phytochemicals. The function of the receptors for the main inhibitory neurotransmitters is affected by phytocompounds from medicinal plants, which play a significant role in maintaining the chemical equilibrium of the brain. This chapter discusses the various bioactive agents responsible for neuroprotective functions.
