Abstract
This chapter discusses the critical value of integrating sound sustainability agendas into an organisation's strategic management strategies. Specifically, the authors debate the benefits, challenges, and counterpoints to authentic strategic sustainability alignment vis-à-vis an organisation's strategic value propositions in the Anthropocene. This perspective on sustainability shifts the paradigm of sustainability analyses from industry, sectoral, and financial indicators to proactive strategic guidelines that support human and societal development without compromising our planetary resources and ecological boundaries. In addition to discussing the implications of sustainable development agendas for strategic sustainability, the chapter also reviews two case studies of organisations that have successfully adopted sustainability into their strategic value propositions. Finally, it discusses Raworth's framework as a model for reinterpreting strategic sustainability management in the Anthropocene.
