Abstract
Numerous earth retaining and earth-supported buildings have been built during the last three decades using geogrid as reinforcement. In more recent times, it has been used to reinforce railroad sleepers in order to improve their structural integrity and use. Before conducting the experimental study on the strain and temperature sensing capabilities of the smart geogrid, a general explanation of the manufacturing process for the FBG integrated smart geogrid was provided. It has now been developed to employ an external sensor to provide a reference displacement for the Harris Hawk optimization (HHO) recommended to find the appropriate weighted coefficient in order to calibrate the reconstructed deformation. The geosynthetic-encased stone column (ESC) is a frequent ground improvement approach because of the current site circumstances (low shear strength) and the need to finish the project within the allotted time.
