Abstract
The advancement of antennas that can access high data speeds, and have higher gain, is largely responsible for the advancements in wireless technology. One such antenna called the multiple input multiple output (MIMO). This antenna has attracted the utmost attention of the researchers owing to its features like higher capacity, increased data rate, low bit error rate, and stable radiation characteristics. Over the years, different strategies have been proposed by several researchers to enhance the performance of the MIMO antenna. This article's main goal is to provide a summary of the changes in MIMO antenna design during the last few decades, with an emphasis on the most significant contributions, which are mainly from IEEE publications. This review work intends to show antenna researchers a promising route for their development using MIMO antennas.
