Abstract
This chapter will analyse the technological innovations in healthcare and biotechnology that are being driven by the arrival of Industry 5.0, otherwise known as the fifth industrial revolution. It will define the components of Industry 5.0—including artificial intelligence, additive manufacturing, internet of things (IoT), big data analytics, and augmented/virtual reality—and provide examples of how these technologies are transforming medical care and biological research. Specific topics covered include precision medicine powered by genetic analysis for personalized treatments, AI-assisted robotic surgeries, ingestible sensors for smart drug delivery, 3D-printed replacement organs and tissues, telehealth for remote patient monitoring, AR/VR systems for medical training and education, automation of laboratory testing, and more. The mission is to educate readers on this healthcare paradigm shift towards data-driven, connected, intelligent, and patient-centric solutions.
