Abstract
Latterly technologies associated with nanomedicine and drug delivery have played a significant role in the advancement of modern medicine, thereby overcoming the hurdles of using conventional drugs. Nanomedicine incorporates the use of nanotechnology for the treatment of various diseases, and one of its crucial applications is drug delivery. “Smart” nanocarriers are designed to carry large amounts of payload, which can be used to target particular cell types or tissues, deliver new medications, control drug release, get past physiological barriers to reach their target, extend the therapeutic window of medications, and reduce undesirable side effects. This book chapter focuses on providing an updated overview of nanomedicines that enhances the effectiveness of new medications. The applications, challenges, and future prospects of nanomedicines as drug carriers have also been discussed.
