Abstract
Rapid industrialization, population growth, and improved lifestyles have led to a significant increase in municipal solid waste (MSW), posing environmental, economic, and social concerns worldwide. Brunei, a major producer of waste, has not explored using organic components on a large scale. The composition of waste in Brunei consists of almost 36% of food waste. Therefore, this study proposes a possible move towards zero waste management by setting up a composting programme in the retail sector to enhance Brunei's population on this rising issue. This initiative aligns with the global trend of prioritising sustainability and reducing carbon footprints. In order to gather perspectives from important stakeholders, such as retail managers, customers, and waste management experts, the study will combine qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The results will be beneficial to related stakeholders in Brunei.
