Abstract
Performance management is a strategic and integrated approach to improving the performance of people in organizations by developing the capabilities of teams and individual contributors. It involves continuous and flexible controlling and directing processes to accomplish tasks in future-focused work, with indicators used to measure success in terms of efficiency and effectiveness. Strategic performance management encompasses the clarification, assessment, implementation, and continuous improvement of organizational strategy and its execution. However, many organizations spend too little time clarifying and agreeing on their strategies and measuring everything that is easy to measure, without turning performance data into meaningful insights and learning. The main activities in performance management include role profiling, performance contract planning, personal development planning, managing performance throughout the year, and performance review. Finally, leveraging critical success factors and using key performance indicators can help organizations achieve their outcomes.
