Abstract

Alejandro González Iñárritu uses the network narrative structure in the films called the death trilogy to create the flow of time and space in the mind of the audience and to produce intuitive meanings. In this context, the universe of the study consists of Alejandro González Iñárritu's films Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003) and Babel (2006), which are outside the traditional storytelling of Hollywood. How is the network structure in these films, referred to as the death trilogy, constructed? What makes the characters part of the same network? How are the motifs that recur in the narratives and strengthen the network structure constructed? How are the wandering objects in the network narrative constructed within the framework of time, space, character or plot?Meike Bal's narrative analysis is used as a method in the study. The narrative structure formed by the combination of multiple concepts such as time, space, character plot and cause-effect link is interpreted within the framework of Carl Gustav Jung and David Bordwell's concepts of network narrative and wandering image.
