Abstract
Public enterprises have many challenges when it comes to achieving objectives, growth, performance, and sustainability. Reasons could be ineffective leadership, dubious management, lack of proper organizational culture, working environment, and poor employee performance. Poor employee performance could be because of skills shortage, lack of motivation, and ineffective training and development. Hence, the main objective of this study was to assess the impact of training and development on employee performance in commercial public enterprise. Adopting a mixed methods approach, with the hypothesis to test whether there was a significant relationship between independent variables (training and development) and employee performance (dependent variable), primary data was collected using questionnaires as a survey instrument and secondary data from published records. Findings reflect a positive correlation between training and development and employee performance and a statistically significant relationship between training and employee performance and development and employee performance.
