Abstract
Artificial intelligence will dominate the future of work. AI will shape how we live, work, and interact with machines and our fellow human beings. Other factors that will affect the world of work include (1) an empowered workforce; (2) flexible work arrangements; (3) prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion; (4) climate change, environmental, social, and governance matters; and (5) managing Gen Z skills gap. Organizations must adapt and become more flexible to attract highly skilled employees. Millennials and Gen Z hold different perspectives of work and employers must be flexible to accommodate the needs of each work group. Virtual work will reduce employee engagement unless organizations proactively institute compensating procedures. Compensation and reward systems will change as work structures change to align with employee preferences. Using horizon scanning, including academic and grey literature, this chapter synthesizes relevant literature to delineate the key drivers of the future of work.
