Abstract
In this chapter a survey of some gender and feminist policies and practices affecting women in Africa is provided. The chapter is a survey of how both the world and Africa have attempted to solve the controversy on women situation through some guiding blueprints and policies that are supposed to guide practices in the international community with special focus on Africa. Specifically, The chapter focuses on broad policies and blueprints like those on the Welfare State; Affirmative Action; Women in Development; Women and Development; Gender and development; gender mainstreaming; and Femocracy. The objectives of the chapter include among others to explain the various global and national attempts at improving women's position in the global community with special focus on Africa.
