Abstract
6G wireless networks are expected to provide extremely high data rates, very low latency and connectivity for a massive number of devices. However, with the rapid development of 6G networks, various new security threats and challenges are also emerging. Artificial intelligence (AI) is considered as a promising technology to address these security issues in 6G networks. In this chapter, a comprehensive review of the role of AI in tackling security challenges in 6G communications is discussed. Firstly, an overview of 6G networks and discusses various new use cases and requirements of 6G. Then outline major security threats and challenges in 6G networks such as spoofing attacks, distributed denial of service attacks, eavesdropping, malicious software attacks, and attacks on machine learning models are discussed. The outline open research challenges and future directions for applying AI to address security issues in beyond 5G and 6G networks are also discussed.
