Abstract
Energy must be at the core of impact if we are to address the 17 SDGs. The policy brief seeks to provide insights and suggest recommendations on some of the key levers that governments can use to align energy policies with SDG objectives, including recent cross-sectoral efforts, in order accelerate sustainable development across all three dimensions at higher pace towards 2030. The careful account of recent UN policy briefs and academic literature suggests several vital levers for shaping energy action as a driver for the SDGs. Unlocking this potential demands political will, multi-stakeholder partnerships, and a systems perspective to policy-making. The 2030 Agenda presents an unprecedented chance to integrate the cross-cutting nature of energy with mainstream sustainable development objectives.
