Abstract

Purpose- This study aims to depict folklore of a study area to be addressed as Kalkulam placed in Tamilnadu state of India as a significant tourist destination. It elucidates folklore as a tool for cultural expression of a region that can be effectively utilized for sustainable development of a local community and promotion of its tourism potential. Design/Methodology- The investigation is based on exploratory and descriptive research approach. Participant observation method was adopted to study folklore of Kalkulam region concerning their manifestation of art forms and experience folklore driven tourism. Findings- The results exhibit folklore as an effective promotional tool to promote cultural tourism in Kalkulam. The study portrays regional culture inheritance through folklore manifested in various arts forms by creating huge impact on tourism promotion and generating means of economic benefits. Originality of Research- The researchers conducted the study by being a part of the community and folklore artists which helped in interpreting this case study.
