Abstract
Integration of mindfulness into second/foreign language teaching and learning contexts is proposed to enhance learner outcomes, foster motivation, promote emotional regulation, improve cognitive skills, and support improvement in language skills and areas. This chapter underscores the transformative potential of mindfulness in language teaching contexts and offers a new instructional approach called mindfulness-enhanced language teaching (MELT) for language practitioners. MELT is introduced as a new instructional approach with its multifaceted components embedded in a teacher training program. Various practices designed originally for language classrooms, digital MELT resources, and incorporation of mindfulness into language practice are given with sample practices. Moreover, recommendations for effective integration of mindfulness are proposed to shed light on future practices of mindfulness in language teaching. This chapter offers practical insight for teachers, teacher educators, and language practitioners to cultivate a novel perspective in their professional endeavors.
