Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic introduced substantial challenges and unique opportunities in education, especially in English language teaching. Loss of instruction time and a decline in learning outcomes emerged as significant problems in engineering education. Amidst these difficulties, the surge in internet-based learning emerges as a promising solution. This chapter conducts an analytical study on the crisis's impact on language learning, the efficacy of online learning in bridging gaps, and the future implications for English language teaching. The methodology involves a questionnaire survey among engineering students and teachers. Students exhibit a passive attitude towards online learning, attributing it to limited interaction during virtual classes. They stress the necessity of on-campus classes for certain concepts like writing and speaking skills. Teachers identify vocabulary learning, reading comprehension, and error spotting as suitable for online teaching. Both groups unanimously support blended learning for the future.
