Abstract

With subjects relating to the ‘blue economy' gaining in popularity, there is an increasing need for a comprehensive approach to incorporate this field of study into higher education. The term ‘blue economy' relates to all economic activities involving oceans, coasts and seas, and applies to sustainable development as well, specifically the United Nations' SDG14. This chapter delves into the exploration of India's Blue Economy analysing the opportunities and challenges it presents for fostering sustainability and resilience. As India seeks to harness the untapped potential of its coastal and marine resources, the chapter examines the various opportunities that the blue economy provides for economic development, job creation and technological innovation. Further more the paper explores policy implications and potential strategies to overcome these challenges advocating for comprehensive and integrated approach that involves collaboration between government, industry and local communities.
