Abstract
This chapter explores the role of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in cybersecurity. Beginning with an overview of AI and ML, it highlights their importance in addressing sophisticated cyber threats and explains key concepts and types of machine learning algorithms—supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. AI and ML techniques for cybersecurity are examined, including threat detection, behaviour analysis, anomaly detection, pattern recognition, and predictive analytics. The discussion covers applications such as threat intelligence, intrusion detection, and malware analysis. Challenges and limitations, including ethical concerns, data privacy, scalability, and interoperability, are addressed. The chapter also looks at future trends, potential advancements, and the integration of AI/ML with technologies like blockchain and IoT. Real-world case studies demonstrate successful AI/ML applications in cybersecurity. The chapter concludes with a summary and outlook on the future potential of AI and ML in enhancing cybersecurity.
