Abstract

This chapter examines the current state of understanding of data security among students in Malaysia's higher education system, with a particular focus on knowledge regarding social media security and data security measures. The findings of revealed a widespread deficiency in respondents' knowledge regarding data security. These findings emphasise the pressing need for educational reforms. The findings also suggest incorporating data security education into the curriculum to nurture a generation of digitally literate individuals who are conscious of security. In line with the principles of Education 5.0, this chapter evaluates existing challenges and proposes educational interventions to address the identified gaps. These interventions align with the framework's emphasis on holistic development, critical thinking and technological literacy. This chapter makes a valuable contribution to the broader discourse on preparing students for the digital era and has implications for educational institutions not only in Malaysia but also on a global scale.
