Abstract
Stress is a prevalent issue among university students, stemming from academic pressures, social dynamics, financial concerns, and transitional challenges. This study explores the coping mechanisms employed by university students to manage stress and maintain mental well-being. Through a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and focus group discussions, The authors identify common stressors and categorize coping strategies. The chapter reveals that students use a combination of problem-focused coping, emotion-focused coping, and avoidance strategies. Problem-focused coping, such as time management and seeking academic support, is associated with reduced stress levels. Emotion-focused coping, including mindfulness and social support, also contributes positively to student well-being. However, reliance on avoidance strategies, like excessive gaming or substance use, often correlates with increased stress. The study underscores the need for university support systems that encourage adaptive coping strategies and reduce reliance on maladaptive ones.
