Abstract
Scientific literacy is a key area of focus for the science and education community, with renewed interest due to global challenges such as climate change and the recent events of the COVID-19 outbreak. Unfortunately, we live in a time where misinformation and disinformation are negatively impacting the acquisition of scientific knowledge and skills. This is affecting the American public and leading us to decreased scientific literacy rates and an increase in skepticism of the scientists working to make our world a better place to live. Efforts to increase scientific literacy require multiple stakeholders to work together to increase accessibility, transparency, and access to accurate scientific information for all citizens. While this is a lofty goal, it is essential if we are going to combat the scientific challenges that we face in our world.
