Abstract

This chapter offers an exploration of the various typologies that define digital assistants. Through the metaphor of craftsmanship, the chapter systematically categorizes and examines chatbots based on their functions, underlying technology, interaction styles, deployment platforms, and primary goals. It highlights the differences between rule-based systems, AI-driven models, and hybrid architectures, explaining how each typology serves specific user needs and business objectives. Furthermore, the chapter discusses the significance of fine-tuning and API-driven models in enhancing the proficiency of chatbots. By providing a detailed analysis of each chatbot type, this chapter aims to equip readers with a deeper understanding of the potential of chatbots in various sectors.
