Abstract
This chapter discusses recent advances in boron nitride (BN), focusing on synthesis, characterization, and coating techniques. Various synthesis methods like chemical vapor deposition (CVD), sol-gel, and ball milling are explored, emphasizing their roles in tailoring BN materials for specific applications. Characterization techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and spectroscopic methods are utilized to elucidate BN's structural and chemical properties. Coating techniques including chemical vapor deposition (CVD), physical vapor deposition (PVD), atomic layer deposition (ALD), and electrodeposition are reviewed for their effectiveness in depositing BN coatings with precise control over thickness and uniformity. The chapter also addresses BN's hardness and corrosion resistance. Future research directions are outlined, including novel coating process optimization to enhance BN's.
