Abstract

Emerging technologies in LATAM are challenging for decision-makers, characterized by rapid evolution, limited expertise in the region, and a need for individual skills. To make impactful and resilient science diplomacy, sustainable thinking is required in current decision-making processes, often due to insufficient anticipation of future scientific developments. This chapter examines the existing status of emerging technologies and the current decision-making process. A significant focus is placed on the impact of individual cognitive processes of science diplomats presenting an anticipatory and sustainable decision-making framework designed to enhance critical thinking skills, targeting the root causes of prevalent issues of today. More informed, future-oriented policy development in science diplomacy are required. The chapter aims to offer actionable insights and a strategic direction for navigating the complex domain of emerging technologies, emphasizing the need for foresight and inference awareness in individual decision-makers.
