Abstract
A new era of personalised travel has been ushered in by artificial intelligence. AI in tourism revolutionises the industry by enhancing personalisation, efficiency and customer experiences. It provides personalised recommendations and predictive analytics for demand forecasting and pricing optimisation. Research into AI within the tourism sector has experienced a significant surge since 2017. Recent research highlights a variety of aspects of AI's application in the travel industry. This chapter systematically selects papers from prestigious journals using post-2018 publications from numerous trustworthy databases to give a comprehensive picture of the rapidly expanding body of work on artificial intelligence in the tourism industry. It endeavours to thematically explore how AI has propelled advancements in the tourism industry, the challenges it presents, and its potential for future development. The chapter further presents practical implementations and outlines future research directions.
