Abstract

This chapter delves into China's soft power strategy through South-South Cooperation (SSC) in Asia, focusing on how its economic growth and cultural outreach enhance its regional influence. It examines China's self-identification as a developing country and its principle of non-intervention, which bolster its appeal among its SSC partners. The analysis identifies the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the Global Development Initiative (GDI) as key to China's soft power in Asia, with both initiatives serving infrastructural development and cultural promotion without imposing political conditions. These efforts resonate in the Middle East and developing Asian countries, aligning with China's preference for engaging state actors to ensure regional stability. However, the chapter also highlights the limitations of China's quest for regional influence, particularly in the realm of public diplomacy.
