Abstract
In the era of ubiquity of cell phones and internet, revenge pornography is an act which poses a mushrooming threat to right to privacy and right to dignity in India. This chapter dives into the legal dimensions of revenge pornography, addressing the complex web of legal issues and considerations that emerge as a result of it. It is significant to understand that specific legal acknowledgement of such acts will aid in comprehensively limiting such crimes and reduce the social stigma attached to it. The lack of any definition of the act and specific legal framework in India, makes it difficult to criminalise different categories of such cases which are trying to find space under the umbrella of revenge pornography. By critically analyzing existing laws, cross-jurisdictional perspectives, platform accountability, and ethical considerations, this chapter aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies and potential solutions surrounding this critical issue. The objective of the chapter is to take the stagnant discussion on revenge pornography in India forward.
