Abstract

This study aims to explore the role of digital technologies in enhancing sustainable tourism within the historic Medina of Fez, with a focus on preserving its cultural heritage while fostering responsible tourism practices. Through a mixed-methods approach that combines a comprehensive literature review with qualitative analysis—comprising interviews with key tourism stakeholders and analysis of online reviews—this research investigates the adoption and impact of online platforms, interactive digital guides, augmented reality (AR) applications, and artificial intelligence (AI) systems on the tourism experience in Fez. The main findings reveal that digital interventions significantly improve visitor engagement, facilitate appreciation of cultural heritage, and support sustainable tourism practices. Specifically, tools like AR and AI-powered guides offer personalized and immersive experiences that connect visitors more closely with the Medina's rich history, contributing to the conservation of the site.
