Abstract
This chapter explores the role of digital technologies in favouring the match of the demand and the supply of sustainable tourism activities. The evolution of the concept of tourism and the main traits of sustainable tourism are described. The chapter also sheds light on how digital technologies afford smart travellers to satisfy their needs of tourism activities more respectful of the environment and the local communities. Lastly, the chapter analyses the case of Ecobnb, an Italian digital platform that gathers all the sustainable accommodations in Italy and proposes travel itineraries that respect the environment.
