Abstract
The ever-increasing energy demand and global environmental crisis have acted like a growing push towards the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs). However, integration of EVs brings forth several challenges concerning the efficiency and reliability of power distribution networks (PDNs). These challenges must be addressed through advanced technologies and smart grid solutions. Distribution network reconfiguration (DNR) has emerged as a promising technique to enhance the reliability and efficiency of PDNs, while supporting the integration of EVs. This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis on DNR method and its application in improving the performance of smart grid enabled PDNs. The study incorporates an in-depth literature survey, highlighting the use of DNR to facilitate EV integration in PDNs. Furthermore, quantitative assessments of the literature are presented. These assessments showcase the effectiveness of DNR in achieving improved performance metrics, such as reducing losses, operational cost, enhancing voltage profile, and ensuring the reliability of EV penetrated PDNs.
