The God Strategy

Author:

Abstract

This chapter introduces the problems of politicians that just cannot resist the “God strategy” and privileging Christianity so that we can never evolve toward a government of a reasonable and just separation of church and state. These problems continue to stoke distrust in the normal function of elections and government where Democracy is belittled in the theocratic way in which religionists and grievance politicians are positioning themselves so that the only way that government would be successful is if all its citizens and legislators were believers in (a Judeo-Christian) God. Unfortunately, this debate often slips further to a flawed understanding of scripture expressed as a one-dimensional battle being fought today in politics, which for the defender of the faith really is a (“in-but-not-of the world”) spiritual battle against the wickedness of the material world.
