Is Christianity the Central, Causative Contributor to the (Im)Migration Problem?

Abstract

Theistic religion's supposed role as a handmaid of politics has aided and abetted politics, but it has historically championed competing moral codes that differ among themselves on what is right and what is the conduct that is required by God's will. This not only often leads grievance politicians, religionists, and even believers of good will to opposite positions on moral matters, but clearly undercuts the government's ability to deal consistently and ethically with the migrant/immigrant crisis—where theistic religion, as the handmade of politics, cannot provide a secure, certain, universal, and stable guide to morals. Nevertheless, even if one is led by a faithful vision of love for strangers, one's moral reasoning can certainly be analyzed and evaluated to maximize the basic principles of social teaching on immigration and the movement of peoples to demonstrate and confirm a great respect for human life and dignity.
