Abstract

The chapter underscores the crucial role of recycling and upcycling in contributing to several SDGs, including SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). These practices support a closed-loop model, embodying the ethos of “for all forever” within a world grappling with finite resources. By reusing materials and garments, the fashion industry actively engages in waste reduction, mitigates environmental impact on landfills, and conserves resources such as water and virgin fibres, contributing to SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water). In response to sustainability requirements across economic, environmental, and social dimensions, the industry is transitioning from staple fibres to continuous filaments, creating opportunities for innovation in recycling technologies. This shift not only promises economic stimulation and job creation but also aligns with SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth) and SDG 9 (industry, innovation, and infrastructure).
