Abstract
Metals and human life go hand in hand. Be it our daily household requirements or large industrial steps, it is incomplete without metals. However, with metals comes a major concern of their corrosion. Due to their interaction with the surroundings, metals get corroded and converted into their more stable forms like oxides altering their physical and chemical properties. This corrosion is a challenge for mankind and to resolve this issue nanotechnology has come to the rescue. The utilization of nanomaterials or their modified form locks the active metal sites which prevent the occurrence of corrosion. Moreover, nanomaterials impart other properties like hardness, strength, durability, etc. at low cost making them a major area of interest as corrosion inhibitors. This chapter discusses in detail the role of nanomaterials in providing resistance to corrosion with a major focus on the principle and variety of nanomaterials utilized as corrosion inhibitors.
