Abstract
Corrosion represents a major hazard to the safety and longevity of various materials, especially in industries such as oil and gas, marine and infrastructure industries. This chapter aims to investigate and analyze the main role of corrosion inhibitors in mitigating the effects of corrosion, thereby improving the durability and performance of materials. The chapter will provide a comprehensive overview of the role of corrosion inhibitors, delving into their classification and mechanisms of action and the wide range of inhibitors available and effective in different industrial contexts. Additionally, the chapter will explore the factors influencing the selection of corrosion inhibitors, considering aspects such as environmental impact, compatibility with different materials and cost-effectiveness. Furthermore, the chapter explores evaluation techniques for assessing the efficiency of corrosion inhibitors.
