Abstract
This descriptive phenomenology study reviewed the e-journal of 40 undergraduate students who took online service-learning. This research will answer the following questions: Using the Lasallian Reflection Framework as a guide in reflective journal writing, what are the benefits and limitations of online service-learning (S-L)? What lessons did the students gain from their online or e-S-L experience? Based on the results of this study, online S-L has its benefits, such as online S-L being a rewarding experience; partner organizations receiving projects, students becoming aware of community situations and issues, course objectives being aligned with the service; and the opportunity to work together remotely as a team. However, one of the major constraints of online S-L is that it has minimal engagement with partner organizations. This research recommends future studies on how online S-L reflection activity is related to student outcomes and the impact of an online setting on partner communities.
