Abstract
This chapter aims to examine how the patterns of environmental proactivity, fueled by internal, external, or reactive motivations, influence the eco-innovative behaviour and the economic and financial performance of family companies in the wine sector. An empirical study was carried out based on a structural equations model, using a partial least squares technique, for a sample of 79 Spanish family wine companies taken between 2017 and 2018. The study allowed us to highlight the eco-innovative nature of family businesses in the wine sector in Spain. The search for greater effectiveness and efficiency, cost savings, improved profitability, and greater competitiveness, together with regulatory factors (regulatory framework and public incentives) were among the main drivers of environmental proactivity and eco-innovation in the companies analysed. Additionally, the development of environmental innovations results in greater economic and financial performance.
