Abstract

This chapter addresses the challenges posed by the tension between localization and globalization in education assessment. It explores how to balance the need to respect local contexts while preparing students for a globalized world. The chapter discusses innovative approaches to reveal the interconnectedness of these strategies. Starting with an examination of cultural, linguistic, and pedagogical diversity, it highlights the complexities in tailoring assessments. It then explores how international standards can enhance localized frameworks. The chapter proposes strategies for educators and policymakers to navigate this balance, providing a roadmap for aligning assessment tools with global competencies. By synthesizing localized and globalized methodologies, it aims for transformative change, promoting a holistic approach to student preparation. Ultimately, it advocates for a shift in assessment practices to foster a symbiotic relationship between local and global knowledge, offering guidance for educators navigating the challenges of localization and globalization in education.
