Shadow education, often referred to as private supplementary tutoring or parallel education, has emerged as a pervasive and intriguing phenomenon worldwide. This abstract delves into the multifaceted dimensions of shadow education, shedding light on its prevalence, motivations, consequences, and implications for formal education systems. The rise of shadow education prevalence is evident in developed and developing countries, raising questions about the factors driving its popularity. In addition, the chapter touches upon the role of technology in shaping the landscape of shadow education. With the advent of online platforms and digital resources, the dynamics of private tutoring have evolved, presenting new challenges and opportunities. This abstract synthesizes the current state of knowledge on shadow education, providing a foundation for future research directions and policy considerations.
