An Analysis of Islamic Helix in a Zero-Waste Soybean Business of Techno-Savvy Micro Enterprises for SDGs

Abstract

Soybean is promoted as one of the richest and cheapest sources of protein, good for health. One variant of soybean is edamame. In Indonesia, edamame is often mentioned as Japanese soybeans, and is synonymous with Jember Regency. Indeed, two of the three main producers and exporters of edamame in Indonesia are in Jember. One of the two is PT Gading Mas Indonesia Teguh (GMIT), which develops a zero-waste business to support the company's business development strategy through Edamame Village as one of its responsible development projects. Through a field study and using the Islamic helix as an analytical tool, this chapter analyzes a zero-waste soybean business on achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs) as well as the existence of technology and digitally enabled community for strengthening micro enterprises by taking case study in Edamame Village. The outcome of this study is a business approach that is inspiring and can be replicated in similar businesses or businesses with different commodities.
