Abstract
India is the first country that flourished in civilization. The country concentrates more on its spiritual tradition and practices, which have been in contact with all the world's major religions. The core of spiritual tourism is to develop internal feelings through worship and attain self-actualization irrespective of caste, creed, and economic status or logical realization through spirituality. The chapter discusses pilgrimage tourism and its impact on socio-economic development. It provides major revenue generation in the overall tourist industry and one of the vast employment-generating industries. India is emerging as a global leader in tourism by introducing many schemes to encourage the Ministry of External Affairs to develop Indian tourism. The chapter will facilitate the learning and rich knowledge source in the global pilgrimage tourism and hospitality discipline. It also provides insights to economists, academicians, researchers, practitioners, and other learned audiences.
