Abstract
This chapter explores the challenges faced by women moving into leadership in the transnational higher education context. The chapter provides a detailed analysis of Amartya Sen's Capabilities Approach to understand gender inequality in leadership. Nussbaum and Robeyns' lists of central human capabilities are adapted to apply theoretically to the context of gender equality in capabilities. The chapter establishes capabilities as a framework for action in pursuit of gender equality in higher education and proposes steps that institutions can take to support women in leadership positions and reduce gender inequality.
