Abstract

This chapter finds the implication of human capital on SDG1 in selected G20 countries. It uses poverty as a dependent variable, while government spending on health & education, Gini coefficient, and life expectancy at birth as independent variables in the Panel ARDL model. It is noticed that government spending on health and education, Gini coefficient, life expectancy at birth, and total health expenditure has a significant impact on poverty. The presence of cross-sectional dependence indicates the association of these variables within and across economies. The G20 countries should pursue inclusive policy interventions to address the issues of healthcare inaccessibility, income distribution and poverty. Investments in healthcare and education would be useful to reduce poverty and achieve SDG1. Income equality helps to increase the progress of SDGs worldwide. Development of the tourism industry would be effective to reduce poverty and increase human well-being.
