Abstract
Cities worldwide are under increasing pressure to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and transition towards emission-free urban centers. The focus is on Glasgow, Scotland, as a case study in striving for emission-free road transport. Insights are gleaned from Glasgow's efforts, challenges, and accomplishments, providing valuable guidance for cities worldwide to lead the charge towards sustainable, emission-free transportation systems. Key elements explored include innovative policies promoting electric vehicle adoption, expansion of public transport infrastructure, and initiatives to incentivise sustainable mobility choices. Challenges such as infrastructure gaps, funding constraints, and behavior change barriers are also addressed. The lessons from Glasgow's experience offer actionable guidance for urban planners, policymakers, and stakeholders seeking to replicate and scale sustainable transport initiatives. The chapter contributes to the global discourse on achieving emission-free urban centers, pioneering transformative change towards a sustainable future.
