Abstract
This investigation reports on the recent evolution of a regional aviation/aerospace cluster in Portugal, located in Ponte de Sor, a small city in the region of Alentejo. Recognized as one of the driving forces of the cluster´s significant growth, the municipal aerodrome anchors the local and regional development in the last decade in this sector. In this chapter, recent and future investment cycles and their socioeconomic impacts are analyzed, the growing diversity and complementarity of activities are presented, and the municipal strategy is discussed going forward. The investigation, based on a Porter´s diamond model analysis, leads us to the conclusion that the Ponte de Sor cluster is set to become one of Portugal´s major aviation/aerospace keystones in future years.
