Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to outline the theoretical foundations regarding the collaboration between museums and schools. The objective is to pave the way for schools and museums towards joint collaboration based on working with the synergies established between both institutions. To do so, different approaches are established regarding the models of museum-school collaboration. Seven collaboration models are presented and explained based on the experience and research carried out in previous chapters with practical examples drawn from each of them. The final part of this chapter defines the Museum Schools approach as the backbone for integrating the teaching and learning process at school in a holistic manner based on experience and the real context of learning.
